Samenvatting

This paper describes how forensic and human factors engineers are often called to testify in products liability cases. Products liability is complex and continually evolving. Although no one expects engineers to become lawyers, the engineer who becomes familiar with the basic concepts of products liability law and how they may apply in a particular case will be a more effective expert witness. Coupling engineering expertise with an understanding of the legal context, familiarity with applicable standards, and skill presentation will enhance the testimony of forensic and human factors engineers.
