This report documents an extensive urban commodity data collection carried out in Calgary during 1972. The survey methodology relied upon a multi-layered cross section of commodity flow and included a screenline survey, cordon counts, trucker interview survey, truck rider survey, endpoint survey and a truck fleet survey. Based on the results of the survey, a number of commodity flow profiles were developed including a profile of goods flow, a profile of trucking operations and endpoint profiles. Slight inconsistencies in sampling and coding made it impossible to cross verify the overall movement profiles from all surveys simultaneously. To date, the overall survey results represent the most comprehensive canadian data on urban goods flows.
