Anti-locking devices to prevent the locking of the brakes and the start of skidding, are now (1979) in the second generation. That means, that nowadays the shortening of the brake distance is only third in priority after stability and steer ability. Measurement and adjustment, the interplay of electronics and mechanics are the cornerstone of modern systems. The article is concentrating on the braking of lorries.
