This paper summarises briefly some reflections on the economic assessment of RTI (Road Transport Informatics) systems stemming from participation in the PARIS project (Project for the Economic Assessment of Road Transport and Traffic Information Systems). This project is the only DRIVE programme dealing globally with industrial issues affecting the supply of RTI systems and its effect on competitiveness. Four main criteria were established against which to test the economic feasibility of RTI systems. These are: markets; service; product and production scope. The relationships between these criteria were obtained using a mixture of questionnaires and personal interviews. So far twenty one firms have participated, and very little has been obtained in the way of results as yet.
