Samenvatting

Data and knowledge in the field of transportation and traffic will not be used successfully in problem solving unless the people concerned are involved. The best way of doing this is to initiate Talking Together on Transportation and Traffic (TTTT) groups. If interactive media platforms are used, the person leading each group need not be highly experienced. To improve the commitment of road users in enhancing road safety, the following can be talked about during a group meeting: 1. What is my role in improving safety, 2. Traffic engineering. 3. Traffic safety engineering. 4. Communication in the transportation and traffic fields - local, national and international data, availability of data, knowledge and communication, combined use of data and knowledge (expert systems). 5. Future expectations. Group participants can be educated in the above; interactive learning using multimedia environments can be employed. Programs on the discs used for the interactive educational multimedia must be adapted to the general and special knowledge and educational peculiarities of the different age groups and user groups. The four programs are: BASIC, DRIVER, GRADUATE and EXPERT. Initial costs are high, but cost of application is low. TTTT activities are essential in all countries for the enhancement of road safety. With only four discs in his possession, a less experienced person can become an excellent mentor in TTTT groups.
