Samenvatting
It is shown that measures of vehicular flow are not sufficient from an economic viewpoint to characterize the level of service in road transport. It is proposed a new set of indicators based on joint measures of both the flow and the occupancy rate, which is correlated to the traffic density and also to the level of service of the road. The use of these indicators is shown through an application to traffic data collected on the Paris motorway ring road (the "boulevard périphérique") in 1992.
