Samenvatting

If it is accepted that road accidents will continue to occur, there is certainly a case for the provision and use of protective helmets, as when multiple injuries to a person occur as the results of an accident, the changes of survival are increased if head injuries are excluded. A close correlation between head sizes and shapes and helmets is of particular importance when dealing with protective helmets because of the necessity of maintaining a close coupling between wearer's head and the helmet being worn. The author describes different methods of obtaining the necessary information to make satisfactory helmets although the peripheral vision is maintained.
