Samenvatting
Traffic telematic services using satellite navigation and mobile communications are currently under development. Services for individual users will become operational in late 1997. For fleet management purposes first commercial services have been available since October 1996 and an improved version will become operational in 1997. The design of protocols for communication between service centre and customers plays an important role in service development. To achieve good performance a protocol stack on top of existing communication services was developed. This paper describes general service concepts as well as functionality and design criteria of protocols specifically developed for this task.
