The prototype as a construct in abnormal psychology: 1. A method for deriving prototypes.

The research reported in this article uses the concept of a prototype to describe ill- defined terms like depression. A prototype is viewed as a theoretical standard against which real people can be evaluated, and a method is proposed for operationalizing such prototypes. Three prototypes are derived and reported.
