Samenvatting

The traditional economy has declined in Eastern Perthshire in recent years, but tourism is a new and growing component. Due to its rural nature most tourists come to the area by car, but the Council and local community wish to consider the potential for increasing the contribution of tourists who use coaches for day trips and peripatetic holidays as part of a broader approach to encourage tourism throughout the area. Blairgowrie lies on the main A93 route which carries tourist coaches to Glenshee, Cairngorms and Royal Deeside from Perth and the Central Belt of Scotland. However, at present few coaches stop in the town for various reasons. A Study was undertaken of the potential for additional coach services to route through and stop in the town. In addition this also considered what would be required to make this happen. An outline proposal was also prepared to provide enhanced coach stopping facilities in Blairgowrie. The Study report has now been considered by the local tourist bodies in the area who are making direct contact with the coach operators identified in the Study to identify their specific needs and, hopefully, to attract additional coach trips to the area. The Study report has now been considered by the local tourist bodies in the area who are making direct contact with the coach operators identified in the Study to identify their specific needs and, hopefully, to attract additional coach trips to the area.
