Having an eye to virtual reality (VR) technology as multimedia technology for information provision, OMRON has developed a new unit which can display moving three-dimensional graphic images as an information provision (IP) unit for "Michi-no-Eki", meaning Road Station(s) in Japanese. This is the first VR type IP unit in Japan, and the unit has been installed at the "Hattou" road station in Tottori Prefecture to provide traffic and region-related information which is intuitive and easily understandable by road users. This paper outlines road stations in Japan and discusses the provision of information with the new VR type IP unit at the "Hattou" road station, the effect of its introduction, and future themes for the unit.
