Limitation of the CO content of exhaust gases from idling petrol engines is a means of reducing air pollution. Research on this subject is reviewed. In order to ascertain whether the CO content does not exceed the limit-figure, instruments of adequate precision are needed. The instruments to be considered are described, and some important points of the test regulation are explained.
