Samenvatting

This paper describes two studies aimed at understanding the underlying attitudes of daily travel behaviour in the urban area of Lund, Sweden, and how attitudes related to pro-environmental travel behaviour can be promoted. The first study was carried out as a questionnaire survey to determine travelling in terms of distance, number of journeys and choice of transport mode. The major conclusion was that attitudes were more important than factual knowledge in determining acceptance of traffic restrictions and travel behaviour. The second study presented to children and adolescents a computer game designed to promote pro-environmental travel behaviour. It was found that attitudes were not affected or were affected adversely among children; but a positive effect was produced in the adolescent group.
