Samenvatting

Motivations for and resistance against belt use are examined. Findings indicate that drivers with pleasure fulfilment tendencies like to suppress the feeling that there could be something dangerous in traffic and therefore are in favour of a restraint system which does not remind them of such dangers. Others dangers with a guarded pattern of driving like to take an active part in protecting themselves and would like a safety belt system.
