This paper describes the method of a study aimed at finding the reasons for excessive speed in driving in Spain. The original questionnaire used included forty items, representing a variety of situations and each preceded by a direct or indirect statement of intent. From this, factor analysis led to the discarding of items describing situations of social pressure and distraction. The resulting questionnaire contained twelve items. Correlations obtained through factor analysis of this questionnaire indicated a good reliability between test and retest. The authors felt that the questions should all be preceded by a direct statement as it was thought the subjects may not have understood the indirect presentation. The results highlighted that scales of escaping from problems and of pleasure from risk show a high correlation. For the covering abstract see ITRD E113725 (C 22328 CD-ROM).
