Samenvatting

The study of human-centered operationally-relevant problems in aerospace and aviation research and development can be enhanced by the inclusion of psychophysiological techniques. By measuring physiological variables in conjunction with performance and subjective measures, a more thorough understanding aboout the processes underlying performance can be obtained. This report presents a summary of the general utility of psychophysiological assessment, the types of applied problems which can be addressed with these assessments, and the qualities of several psychophysiological techniques. In addition, safety and ethical considerations, guidelines for making determinations about the most appropriate research strategy, and three research examples are discussed. The report concludes with a series of appendixes which offer the reader information on how to collect and analyze each of the psychophysiological measures. This Advisory Report was sponsored by the Aerospace Medical Panel of AGARD.
