In a context of potential development of the public transport supply, which is inevitably becoming increasingly multimodal, it is important to improve passenger information and, at the same time, to meet new requirements, which are now better identified. A particular importance has to be dedicated to the usefulness and the accuracy of information but also to the suitability of the systems providing it. The standardisation of some of the functional and ergonomic aspects of Public Transport and Multimodal Traveller Information systems is today recognised as an essential step to achieve easy access of the users to information and to support the development of such systems. Specifications and guidelines for system design and information presentation as well as guidelines for system usability evaluation are presented along with proposals for standards concerning Public Information Terminals. All the above must be adapted to local mobility context and regional travel schemes, posing, therefore, restrictions to standardisation. For the covering abstract see ITRD E114174.
