Samenvatting

The development of public transport information systems in Gothenburg, Sweden from the 1970s is outlined. The Gothenburg Traffic and Public Transport Authority was established in the 1980s and in 1993 the city began to work with a real time system for public transport information and signal control. The GOTIC research project was set up to study the information needs of passengers. The development and principles of the KomFram technical platform are described. Current developments include a 'Gateway' to enable subsystems to share resources and information, replacement with the Mobitex radio system with the TETRA system, and the introduction of a new smart card ticketing system and new vehicle computers. New services include new displays, services for the disabled, better algorithms to improve departure time forecasts, and automated traffic disruption information.
