Samenvatting

This paper describes transport policy in the city of Prague, Czech Republic. Car ownership and use has increased in the last ten years alongside a related decrease in public transport use. Transport policy for the city is centred on nine key principles, including: integrating operation and development of transport infrastructure in Prague and the surrounding area; integrating transport system and residential area development; co-operation from all transport modes in design and management of an integrated system; regulating private car use in the city centre to create demand for passenger transport; improving safety, quality and capacity; giving priority to environmentally-friendly systems; providing safe transport for pedestrians and disabled travellers; and providing passenger information.
