Samenvatting

This paper was presented at the `Transportation Technology Innovations' session. Establishing an effective quality system which complies to the ISO standards is a major achievement by any company. Setting up a quality system for a small software development team is a rare mission today but might be a widespread activity in the future. This paper describes the experience gained from implementing a quality system for a small software developer working in the information management field. Software specific issues are discussed in detail and descriptions of the applied solutions to balance adequate control and desired flexibility are given. While there are many publications to aid large and medium size software development teams, there is little guidance for small software companies to follow during their quality journey. How can a small software development team find the best way to assure quality without the overwhelming burden of extra overhead, unnecessary administration and extended time spent on documentation? This paper discusses this question by examining the activities of configuration management, design control and testing. (A)
