A two-stage study of seat-belt usage carried out in Canada is described. The first step involved a series of informal interviews with experts in traffic safety. The second step consisted of a series of group meetings with members of the select opinion sounding panel of the university. 5 Areas of investigation were defined (1) attitudes to car safety in general; (2) attitudes to seat belts; (3) personal background; (4) experience with automobile and (5) personality.
