Samenvatting

State and Local road authorities in Queensland have formed a strategic partnership to better coordinate road planning and improve asset management capability across both levels of government. This partnership arrangement is known as the Main Roads and Local Government Road Management and Investment Alliance, and is based on Regional Road Groups managing a combined section of the state and local road network. This paper explores why and how the Alliance was established and the lessons learnt thus far. More specifically, this paper provides details on the processes and frameworks developed which might act to guide others who wish to embark on a similar process. This paper explores how the Road and Bridge Asset Management Framework for the Alliance evolved and outlines the co-operative arrangements that now exist in ensuring that all local governments and Main Roads in Queensland have greater consistency in outputs and alignment in asset management capability for managing the state's extensive road network.
