Samenvatting

Under the terms of the Prime Minister's minute on the control of statistical surveys dated 4 March 1992, regular surveys of businesses and local authorities must be reviewed at least every five years. The main purpose of such reviews is to ensure that the survey still provides a necessary input to the work of government, and is consistent with the Government's aim of reducing the burden of form-filling on businesses and local authorities. The Survey Control Unit of the Central Statistical Office's (CSO) is responsible for ensuring that reviews comply with the Prime Minister's directive. The main report contains an introduction, dealing with the purpose of the review and its terms of reference, a section on the survey itself, describing the mechanics of data collection, its uses and the associated costs and benefits, a section on the conduct of the review, and detailed review recommendations. Part 2 provides a detailed record of the review proceedings and the evidence gathered. (A) See also C 2134 (In: 2133) (IRRD 859640).
