Raise the bar.

This article describes some of the rising barrier projects undertaken by the company Automatic Systems in Europe in the last thirty years. Designs can be put into two main groups: short, fast, rising barriers for turnpike roads and sturdy rising and swinging barriers for traffic control. Payment for road tolls is made increasingly by means of magnetic card or by electronic vehicle identification. Traffic management barriers are used to close off roads or tunnels for maintenance or for incident management. A case in point is the barrier system required for the new Soedra Laenken tunnel under Stockholm, Sweden. For the covering abstract see ITRD E118381.
