Samenvatting
The potential of police enforcement as a countermeasure against drinking and driving was clearly shown in Australia since in New South Wales in December 1982 random breath testing was introduced. In the Netherlands most police forces do not have a budget or the manpower for special enforcement programmes on drinking and driving, even if the police is in favour for more enforcement. An experimental programme for random breath testing on a small scale was implemented in 1986 in the city of the Hague. After an evaluation of the programme, the results are discussed.
