The conurbation in the western part of the Netherlands, known as the "Randstad", is continuously changing. Modern demands call for adjustment and new developments. Accessibility is essential, but so are the environment and liveability; the effects of transportation and traffic have caused these to become conflicting interests. A further extension on the infrastructure of traffic together with increasing volume will lead to unacceptable level of environmental impact. Fundamental choices resulting in political guidelines for Randstad and Mobility will have to be decided upon, taking into account strict preconditions dictated by the environment and liveability.
