Samenvatting

The development of in-car road information using RDS-TMC technology will be implemented first in the big agglomerations, thanks to the progressive implementation of wholesaler servers, enabling public or private operators, operating under a competitive status, to be provided with these data openly and clearly. The service will broadcast information on the state of the network and on travel time according to the different itineraries using the standardized protocol ALERT+. It also foresees the setting up of a free service for broadcasting important events on the road fast lane network using the standardized protocol ALERT C. The whole service will be accessible only to subscribers. On the other hand, the free minimal service will be accessible to all users of standardized RDS-TMC devices. Similarly, an RDS-TMC service using ALERT C standard will be implemented on the A6/A7 motorways (Paris-Lyon-Marseilles) in complement of 107.7 dedicated radios, during the course of 1998. This service will be free and accessible to all users of standardized devices. The progressive extension of this service to all the motorway corridors could take place later, depending on the results of model site and the development of European terminal parks.
