Samenvatting

Using United States Federal and British government data, this article looks at changes to licensing rates, fatality rates, and mobility options for older men and women over the last 20 years. There has been a very recent decline in licensure rates for older US men, whereas those for older women have increased. Traffic fatality rates have decreased even though more people are licensed to drive and drive more. Older women tend to drive less and stop before men. Studies show, however, that if they drive longer, extended safer mobility could result. (Author/publisher)
