Samenvatting
The paper initially provides an overview of the existing traffic safety levels in Europe and the United States. The recent risk developments are presented - followed by a statistical evaluation of high risk groups at international level and their characteristical variation in Western and Eastern European countries are compared with special emphasis being laid on trends in traffic safety related to the sharp increase in road accidents which has taken place until 1991.
