The impact of the British Road Safety Act of 1967, which introduced a limit of 0.8 0/00 for the level of alcohol in the blood of drivers is well known. Nevertheless, the impact was not maintained. Measures to improve the drinking and driving problem are: 1)police to have discretion to screen test drivers at the roadside,2)development of procedures to change behaviour patterns and 3)education in schools.
