Samenvatting

Three experiments are reported which demonstrated an important boundary condition of the recognition failure phenomenon. It was found that the amount of recognition failure of recallable words approached zero. It is argued that there is a greater degree of compatibility in recall than in recognition, and it is for this reason that subjects can often recall words they fail to recognize.
