Samenvatting

When a small quantity of water (1.5 per cent to 2.5 per cent) and air are added to hot asphalt (150 to 1800) under specific conditions, the asphalt expands 10-20 times, and it is foamed. The foamed asphalt decreases its viscosity and surface tension so that it can be mixed with aggregates in cold and moisture conditions. This is why this method of foamed asphalt is useful not only for reduction in cost, but also for maintaining our environment such as reducing emissions of carbon dioxide. The cement foamed asphalt (CFA) method which uses foamed asphalt and cement is widely applied in Japan as the in place rehabilitation for base course by making use of this characteristic. This paper reports on the characteristics of in place rehabilitation for base course by CFA method and case studies of it. (a) For the covering entry of this conference, please see ITRD abstract no.
