Reducing congestion with low-clearance underpasses at urban intersections: investigation and case study.

Low-clearance underpasses (LCUs) can reduce traffic congestion at intersections where other alternatives have been exhausted. Four such underpasses along a congested arterial in Honolulu, Hawaii, were modeled with integration. Results indicate that LCUs would be much less expensive as compared to standard underpasses.
