This is the summary of the report and technical annexes (which are published separately) "Reducing traffic injuries through vehicle safety improvements : the role of car design" which examines the role of car design in reducing the number of casualties in car crashes. It highlights those safety measures which research suggests offer the larges potential benefits, and reviews the principal means for securing progress.
