The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (RBK&C), UK has reduced street clutter by using a common support for traffic signals and street lighting as part of an environmental enhancement scheme. The flexibility introduced by BS EN13201 and BS5489 allowed the positions of the lighting columns to be adjusted to suit the geometry of the new signal heads whilst allowing lighting design parameters to be met. Columns were designed with two doors to allow separate electrical connections for lighting and signals. The main electrical power was a single phase 60A supply with two separate isolators feeding the lighting and signals. Details are given of the electrical connections. The shared column scheme has been well received. (Author/publisher)
