Traffic speed on an urban secondary arterial route in Hamilton was monitored on weekday mornings (8.30- 8.50am), using handheld radar, at points 400m (clear) or 300m (heavy fog) from signs marking entry into the 50km /h speed limit. It was evident that the vast bulk of motorists failed to conform to the 50 km /h limit, even in poor weather conditions. Recommendations were made in the light of the findings.
