Noise emissions by motor vehicles passing by is determined by three components : engine, tyre and road surface, by which a complex correlation from different mechanisms plays a role. As yet it seems to be not possible to set this completely in a model, by which for specific situations all relevant parameters are incorporated. The quantification of the influence of the road surface properties has the aim to forecast the influence of the average noise emission of different vehicles and different kinds of tyres and not a forecast for each specific combination. The most relevant road surface properties for the noise of passing by vehicles are the roughness, the acoustic impedance and the porosity. Also the stiffness and porosity. Also the stiffness and the skidding resistance can play a limited role. It is recommended to design a complete model for the primairy effects of the tyre-road surface-noise, which is started from the good and sufficient description of one or more representative vehicles and tyres. The results of such a model should be evaluated by available measured data.
