Samenvatting

In this study, THOR-NT and Hybrid III responses were compared in ten HYGE sled test configurations using a JNCAP pulse representing a full overlap 55 km/h impact against a rigid wall. Based on the results, repeatability of each dummy and differences in response sensitivity between 2 seating procedures (FMVSS208 and UMTRI) were evaluated. In general, both dummies showed a reasonable level of comparable results and repeatability. However, the kinematics and dynamic responses of their lower extremities depended on the seating position. It is supposed that those differences were caused by the initial gap between the foot and the footrest and between the knee and the knee bolster, their different lower leg axial stiffness and differences of their femur and tibia anthropometry. This result indicated that a new positioning procedure should be developed and defined for the THOR dummy. For the covering abstract see ITRD E144229.
