Samenvatting

This paper presents a technique for obtaining an improved estimate of the hourly distribution of traffic volume from short- term traffic counts. It has been found that the hourly volume distribution of New Zealand rural state highways is bimodal, with the same basic distribution applying to roads of different classes and volume levels. A heterogeneous exponential- lognormal function has been fitted to the distributions using the method of moments.
