Samenvatting

Cash payment of single tickets and the non-integration of the payment process into electronic travel information systems represent a considerable hindrance for the use of public transport in intermodal traffic. Also for the operators of public transport means, car parks and toll roads, cash payment forms a considerable cost factor. Now new electronic wallet developments offer the possibility to overcome these difficulties and to realize intermodal traffic more attractively and more efficiently. As part of the European QUARTETplus project, this study reports a comparison of different concepts in Germany and Italy for such an intermodal electronic wallet, analyses the portability of the different approaches, and derives recommendations. Electronic wallet systems are described for the cities of Stuttgart, Torino and Livorno.
