Research on street and highway lighting with particular reference to their effect on accidents.

This paper reviews some of the more important researches carried out at the roadresearch Laboratory on four aspects of streetlights: 1. Roadsurface reflection characteristics. 2. Lantern light distributions. 3. The effect of street lighting on road safety. 4. Lighting columns as collision hazards. Some hitherto unpublished data are included.
