One characteristic of variable message sign (VMS) Guidance Information System is that its performance highly depends on driver response to guidanceinformation. People are always studying which kind of guidance information effect is best. Many studies focused on travel time guidance information, such as instantaneous travel time, predicted travel time. Based on Cellular Automata, the paper compared guidance effect between travel time guidance information and speed guidance information. For non-signalized controlroad network, travel time guidance information can not prevent traffic congestion; but mean speed guidance information can guide traffic flow to traffic equilibrium, though there is fluctuation in traffic flow pattern.
