Samenvatting

The equipment was designed for testing four theories: A gap projection and acceptance mode, where by acceptable gaps in the right lane are detected and ramp vehicles are released from the ramp signal to match the gaps. The second mode detects the total demand upstream of the ramp and a vehicle is released when there is capacity available on the freeway- A modification of the demand capacity mode, with the exception that the capacity setting can be automatically changed to reflect the effects of accident and other traffic-affecting conditions. Also similar to the second mode with the right lane demand and capacity being used in place of the three-lane demand and capacity.
