Samenvatting

This paper begins by highlighting some of the important findings from ECOTEC's study on the effect of development patterns in generating travel. A study is then described which unlike ECOTEC's study focused solely on new residential developments and their significance for car-based travel. Surveys were carried out in new residential areas at 5 locations within a 15 mile radius of Oxford. The study concentrated on regular journeys made by adults. The results of the survey are discussed from the point of view of a) socio-economic characteristics, b) distance from Oxford, c) accessibility to work places, d) accessibility to major transport facilities and e) changes at time of household move.
