Samenvatting

The highly protective quality of the safety belt remains undisputed. Nevertheless,it is evident, that almost the same injuries may occur whether or not a safety belt is used. It is evident that in frontal collisions with protection by safety belt, a high injury risk still remained for car passengers, for instance for the knee region by the dash- board, for thorax and head region by the steering wheel. In lateral collisions, injuries to the whole body were caused by the side structures of the doors. This situation must be regarded as a challenge for modification by car constructors.
