This literature review covers the following topics: concepts of 'road rage' and 'respect on the road' and their definitions; the differences in behaviour between different road users (car and van drivers, motorcyclists, cyclists, pedestrians) and the reasons for the differences; people's attitudes to the police, parking attendants and other law enforcers on the road; the characteristics of the car environment that cause a person's respect for others to diminish; people's justification for their behaviour on the road; the extent that people who show a lack of respect on the road are more likely to exhibit dangerous behaviour on the roads; and measures (behavioural, enforcement, ergonomic and self-help) that would make people improve their behaviour on the road and show more respect for others.
