The method of repairing and reconstructing a historical (the hundred-twenty year-old) steel road bridge built in the picturesque town center on thehistorical site in Klodzko (Upper Silesia, Poland) in the years 1883–84 is presented. The bridge is a one-span through bridge; its main girders areof the truss type and its span has the effective length of 24.00 m. It issituated on the two abutments. The trusses of different height are constructed in the form of a half-parabolic of top chord. As part of a major repair, the bridge was strengthened using a modern solution for the reinforcement of the structure within the deck by means of steel orthotropic deck plates with the ribs situated perpendicular to the bridge’s longitudinal axis and resting on the stringers. The paper is described the design of the new deck plates within the bridge roadway and the sidewalks and the methodof their assembly as well as the design of the steel curbs, including thedrainage. In addition, the positive effect of the applied solution resulting in the increased load capacity of the bridge, whereby it could be put into normal operation under the assumed load, was demonstrated.
