The functional life of concrete pavements and bridge decks is frequently reduced by a loss of skid resistance from traffic rather than from structural deterioration of the concrete. By using the bonding capabilities of latex modification, a thin application of a latex-modified portland cement slag slurry has been used to restore skid resistance to concrete pavements and bridge decks, thus extending their useful life in the absence of other types of distress. Applications of this technique in virginia are described. This paper appears in transportation research record no. 1301, Factors affecting properties and performance of pavements and bridges 1991.
