The experiment on tramline No.5 in Rotterdam was carried out to reduce waiting times for passengers, to improve the even occupancy of trams on the same line and working conditions of staff. Improving regularity results in shorter waiting times for passengers and in a more even distribution of passengers over the vehicles. The introduction of the passing disc resulted in much shorter waiting times for passengers, but in-vehicle-travel-time increased. The level of service which had been aimed at, has not materialized. This should be studied next.
