Samenvatting

In 1981, random samples of 1335 and 617 goods vehicles (3.5 tonne gvw or greater) were selected at Lichfield (A5) and Barham (A2) respectively. Each vehicle was weighed and measured. This report summarises the data collected and assesses the extent and the effects of overloading. At Lichfield it was found that seven per cent of the vehicles were overloaded, accounting for 15.8 per cent of the road damage on the A5. Of this, 12 per cent was due to seven vehicles carrying indivisible loads. At Barham, 22 per cent of the vehicles were overloaded, accounting for 9.9 per cent of road damage on the A2.
